My Body Got Loud Before I Listened (Don’t Make The Same Mistake)
Has your body ever surprised you, seemingly out of nowhere?

If so, then you know that it often takes time before we begin to notice our body’s signals. Sometimes they need to get loud, exceeding our threshold for discomfort. We may doubt or deny our inner wisdom, wondering if we are reading too much into our body’s responses.
Yet we all know that our bodies are complex and wondrously interconnected. What passes through our minds and tugs at our hearts will inevitably show up in our physical bodies.
The signals are subtle at first, but when we ignore them, they become louder.
That’s what happened to me.
My body became intensely loud before I understood what it needed to heal itself.
A few years back, I fell sick with a terrible chest cold. Weeks later, the tightness in my chest persisted, and I received an asthma diagnosis. I was confused and upset. Why was this happening when I was an otherwise healthy person, and a fitness instructor too?
Then, it got worse: my skin began breaking out with itchy painful, rashes. I swapped out shampoos and conditioners, then moving on to soaps, deodorants, lotions, and laundry detergents, without ever cracking the code.
Ultimately, testing revealed an allergy to twelve common chemical ingredients. Once again, I felt confused by my body’s responses.
When I developed food sensitivities to foods that I had been eating (and enjoying!) my entire life, I had had enough. It was time to explore my body’s reactions from a new perspective.
My body was waging war, and until I caught on, I was only half-listening.

Those new food sensitivities brought me to full attention. Finally, I was ready to understand why my body was protesting so loudly.Though medications and treatments were quieting my body’s superficial response, they weren’t treating the root cause of my ailments.
Instead of ignoring and half-listening, I decided to pay closer attention.
My holistic health coaching education was instrumental in helping me discover how my lifestyle was affecting my health.

If so, then know this: Eating nutritiously and exercising daily is important, but if you are energy-depleted under the weight of chronic stress, then your health will suffer.

The prescription to heal doesn’t come from the pharmacy. It comes from checking in with yourself, guarding your resources, and growing your self-care practices.
For me, the prescription to heal looked like spending more time in nature, developing a sustainable restorative practice, cultivating self-compassion, and managing my mind.
When I focused on healing my mind and spirit, my physical healing followed.
This might sound miraculous, but actually, it makes perfect sense. Again, it’s all interconnected.
My symptoms were frustrating and frightening at times, but they also prompted me to transform. My journey from dis-ease to wellness embodied the whole-body approach of holistic medicine.
Health coaching taught me about the interconnectedness of the mind, body, and spirit, and life coaching gave me powerful tools for creating change and mastering my mind.
Now, I get to boldly experiment and grow in every aspect of life. And I also get to extend the promise of transformation to you.
In the end, my symptoms weren’t pointless. They were pointing me in a new direction. And perhaps yours are, too.
